The Council of the Quebec Forest Industry (CQFI) is a Quebec-based organization operating in the forestry sector. Its primary objective is to promote the sustainable development of the forestry industry in Quebec. As a representative for the province’s forestry businesses, the CQFI is committed to defending the interests of this critical sector of Quebec’s economy.

For this project, the CQFI developed a detailed requirements specification and sent it to a few preselected companies to encourage them to bid on this call for proposals. In short, the mandate assigned to our team was to simplify the daily operations of the Product Quality Management team at the CQFI by digitizing the entirety of field visits conducted by inspectors while maintaining performance levels. The project also aimed to implement dashboards with key performance indicators and allow CQFI members to connect to the platform to view inspection results at their factories while respecting data confidentiality.

The goal of the project was to develop a web application to replace the calculation files previously used for inspection management. The CIFQ wanted to ensure the traceability of inspections and transmitted information to automate the report generation tasks that were being done manually.

“The major challenges we had to overcome were primarily understanding the business to automate tasks performed manually, setting up a compliance calculation process for inspections and factories, importing five years of Excel files in bulk, and achieving identical results for the compliance of imported inspections and linked factories.

Our teams aimed to transform a highly dependent workflow with low security control and inconsistent compliance calculations. We developed a digital application that streamlined information transmission and strengthened inspection control. We also created the application infrastructure by deploying application containers (Azure/Docker).

After deployment, we continued our support for nearly seven months, ensuring the application’s maintenance, developing new features, and managing technical debt. This allowed us to guarantee continuous monitoring, maintain security, and update platform libraries while minimizing risks.

Thanks to our team’s work, the data processing procedure is now more automated and better controlled. The project has enabled the company to increase operational efficiency, gain considerable time savings, and enhance security.
